Ruth Pilkerton Harvey's Obituary
HARVEY, Ruth Pilkerton; Age 93 of Nashville, TN passed away November 4, 2011. Beloved wife of David Dozier Harvey for 75 years, who passed October 31, 2011, just 5 days ago. They are now united together forever in spirit. She was also preceded in death by her parents Ruby Hooper Pilkerton and Luckie V. Pilkerton, Sr., brothers, Francis Drew Pilkerton, Charles Smith Pilkerton, and Luckie V. Pilkerton Jr. She is survived by daughter, Sandra (Jim) Young and son, Charles (Ann) Harvey; endearing grandchildren, J.Clayton Young Jr. of Nashville, Major David W. (Deborah) Young Sr. of Monterey and Susanne (Douglas) Fowler of North Carolina; joyful great-grandchildren, David and Audrey Young and Rachael and Laura Fowler. Mrs. Harvey was an active member of Meridian Street UMC where she participated several times as circle leader with United Methodist Women and worked with Church Women United especially in association with Bethlehem Center. She continued her devotion to supporting Aldersgate Church. She was a loyal reader of the Upper Room and much devotional material. Mrs. Harvey was also an active member of Hendersonville Garden Club and delighted in her Iris Garden. She and her husband were members of the F.A.N. Club (Friends and Neighbors) that was organized during WWII to support families at that critical time. Mrs. Harvey was known for her persistent and loving care of her family, friends and anyone in need. The funeral ceremony will be on Monday November 7, 2011 at 1PM in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Norton and Bro. Jim Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Hendersonville Garden Club and the Turner Price Bible Class of Aldersgate UMC. Due to the recent passing of Mr. Harvey donations are suggested to the Shriner’s Hospital or the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
