Sarah "Louise" Alexander Draper's Obituary
DRAPER, Sarah "Louise"Alexander; Went to be with the Lord on September 28, 2010 after a long illness, having been blessed with 96 amazing years. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Beverage Houston Draper. She is survived by her precious daughter Carol Bourque and son Houston Gwynne (Shelby) Draper, Former Son-In-Law Gary Bourque, Former Daughter-In-Law Dianne (Joe) Holland, Sister-in-Law Margaret Alexander, Grandchildren Dwayn (Cheryl) Draper, DeWitt Draper, DeAnna (Dale) Owens, Christopher (Carla) Bourque and Brandon (Sunshine) Bourque, Great-Grandchildren Bailey Swafford, Griffin and Logan Draper and Nicholas and Colten Bourque. She is also survived by a cousin, Elizabeth C. Smith of Murfreesboro. Mrs. Draper was born April 3, 1914 in Nashville to the late Gwynne Alexander and Eunice Baker Alexander. She received education in the Nashville Public School system and was an active member of City Road Chapel United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, where she presided over the United Methodist Women twice, taught Sunday School at several levels and served numerous functions. An ever-smiling face, Mrs. Draper was easily recognized from her work at Draper Hardware Store, a business she and her husband ran for 38 years in Madison. A lifetime member of the International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons, Mrs. Draper served as president of the Davidson County branch, and Parliamentarian of the Tennessee Order. She also worked diligently to bring the King's Daughters Day Home of Madison to fruition. She has volunteered countless hours within the Day Home as well as by serving on the Board of Directors as President. For her outstanding service, she was awarded the Founders Day Award, and has been nominated twice for the Mary Stubble Award. Always an involved member of her community, Mrs. Draper worked within her children's Parent Teacher Organization, and served as a volunteer to the Red Cross. She gave countless hours and ten years of service to the Tennessee Christian Medical Center's Gala, which raises funds to upgrade hospital equipment. She was also an active participant in the Old Hickory Eastern Star #203 and a dedicated member of the Riverside Garden Club where, among other activities, she served as President for two terms. Mrs. Draper and her husband also belonged to the Alvin C. York Chapter of the Prisoners of War. Mrs. Draper has truly lived her life with a servant's heart, endearing herself to all who knew her. Mrs. Draper would like to thank special friends and family: Teresa Gann, Sunshine Bourque and Margaret Alexander who have been a constant source of support during this past year. In lieu of Honorary Pallbearers, she would like to thank and remember these friends who have played an important role in her life: Larry and Dottie Peiffer, Bob & Evelyn Sylar, Jerry & Anne Rittenberry, Delores & Ed Carter, Larry & Chris Carter, The Odom Family, Geri & Richard Scott, Carol Anne Wade, Alice Alexander, Marie Nethery, Carolyn Adams, Charlie & Betty Eastwood, Millie & Dell Grammer, Glen & Louise Thompson, Duncan & Gussie Empson, Mae Helen Diamond, and the entire Hayes Sunday School Class. The family would also like to thank Alive Hospice, devoted caregivers, close friends from Mrs. Draper's various organizations and her church family. Active Pallbearers will include Dwayn Draper, DeWitt Draper, Dale Owens, Christopher Bourque, Brandon Bourque, Gary Bourque, Darrel Mullins and TC Killeen. The family cordially invites friends to a celebration of life visitation on Friday, October 1 from 2 pm until 8 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 2 at City Road Chapel United Methodist Church at 3 pm with the Rev. Ron Lowery and Rev. Carol Wade officiating. The family will accept friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Draper requests that in lieu of flowers, friends make donations to the Madison King's Daughters Day Home, City Road Chapel United Methodist Church or a charity of their choosing.
