Ms. Shirley Jeanne Palmore Smith's Obituary
Shirley Jeanne Palmore Smith, age 81 passed away November 5, 2016. She was born on February 7, 1935 to the late William and Irene Palmore in Nashville. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack H. Smith; sisters Peggy Holst and Patricia Bracey. She is survived by her children Dana Swilley (Jeff) of Brandon, MS, Ricky Smith (Ellen) of Hendersonville, and Jack Smith, Jr. of Nashville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Charlene Smith of Greenbrier, one niece and six nephews.
As a teenager, she played junior high basketball, modeled, and attended East High School. At the age of 36, she became widowed. Along with being a loving mother and later grandmother, she began working outside the home to take care of her family. She worked for several years as a bartender and retired from the Jim Dandy/Mapco Convenient Mart close to her home. She was an avid sports fan. She supported Vanderbilt basketball in the 60’s and Maplewood High School football in the 70’s . She enjoyed Nascar, Little League baseball, golf, and Alabama football. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to Elvis concerts with her sister. She loved outdoor gardening and her flowers.
A visitation honoring her life will be Wednesday, November 9, 2016, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216, 615-865-1101. www.springhillfh.com. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
