I am profoundly sad to hear the demise of Professor Sidney Fleischer. I had the privilege of working in his laboratory as research fellow for several years. (1993-2002)
He was a wonderful teacher and an excellent mentor. He was always open to new ideas and challenges. He had a remarkable perseverance to achieve perfection in scientific studies.
His distinguished academic and scientific career as well as his outstanding contributions to the advancement of science will be remembered internationally.
May his soul rest in peace and may God console his family and friends.

My name is Ying Qi, I am very sorry to hear of Dr. Fleischer’s passing away. I joined Dr. Fleischer’s lab in 1995 as a postdoctoral fellow. Working in Dr. Fleischer’s lab is in some of my favorite memories. I received fascistic professional training from Dr. Fleischer and gained a tremendous knowledge which supports me the good standing in science field. I am inspired by his dedication to science, and his commitment to curiosity. Dr. Fleischer enthusiasm for science and critical opinion for every scientific question always encourage me in the challenge scientific path. Professor Fleischer's demise is a major loss for many. His mentorship and friendship were invaluable for many years. He was truly unique - irreplaceable.

We celebrate his love for many people, his dedication for pursuit of answers, in the course of his challenging research, yielding major scientific contributions.

We Know that there is a sense of comfort and peace, achieved as his unique contributions are contemplated.

I am very sorry to hear of Dr. Fleischer's passing. He was a regular attendee at Vandy Cooks, a monthly cooking demonstration held at the Vanderbilt Rec Center. He lit up the room with his smile and was always a joy to talk to. It was a pleasure getting to know him and he will be greatly missed.

My name is Marilyn Holmes and I am one of the Associate Directors at the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center. We offer to Vanderbilt and the community at large a monthly cooking class. For about 2 years now, Professor Fleisher has been coming to this class. He was passionate about healthy living and enjoyed these classes much. We knew something was wrong when he did not come to the May 20th session. We are sad to learn of his death and will miss him greatly. Many of the regulars to these sessions knew him and we will be sure to let them know of his death.

Out of much sadness this morning on learning of this news.

My name is Christine Palade. Dr. Fleischer was my first real boss who hired me sight unseen because he wished to give me a chance to work and interact with students and postdoctoral fellows who would teach me to work in the scientific field. It was a privilege to work under and with him, and our relationship was cordial and friendly to the point that I could do no wrong. I myself did everything to keep a high level of professionalism and dedication. I worked in Dr. Fleischer's lab for seven years. I learned a tremendous amount and I will always be grateful to him. Rest in peace!

I played a bit of Tennis with Sid and Daulat Tulsiani on Saturdays for about 4 years and would talk with him several times a week and the Vanderbilt Dayani Center. We would solve the world's problems share a bit of humor and hit a few tennis balls. He was not going to sit down because he was getting older and had a few health problems. I will miss his gentle wit and concern for people.
