Mrs. Stephanie Denise Payne's Obituary
Stephanie Denise Payne, age 42 of Nashville, passed away suddenly on October 9, 2015. Stephanie was born in Nashville on July 27, 1973. She was a loving daughter, wife, aunt, and friend to many.
Family was important to Stephanie. She was very close to her mother, Stella Batson Payne. She loved being an aunt to her seven nieces and nephews. She enjoyed getting together with the family for food and fellowship, especially during the holidays. The idea of “family” also extended to her dogs. She doted on them.
Stephanie loved to enlist her husband, Darvin, to go on road trips with her to festivals… any kind of festival. Their last trip together, they took their dogs with them for the first time to visit Reelfoot Lake State Park. “It was wonderful,” remembers DJ. “Stephanie was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
Her family also recalls that Stephanie wasn’t shy to give her opinion. By all accounts, one knew where one stood in Stephanie’s eyes.
She was a member of Tulip Street United Methodist Church. She also loved to spend time on the farm of her in-laws, who loved her like a daughter.
Stephanie is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Darvin Oakes, Jr.; aunt Janice Kirkpatrick of Nashville; parents-in-law, Darvin and Jennifer Oakes of Pikeville; one brother-in-law; and two sisters-in-law; several cousins; and seven nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, October 12, 2015 from 4 pm until 8 am at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Additional visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 10am until 12pm. Funeral Services for Stephanie will be at 12pm on Tuesday, from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home, with Pastor Darvin Oakes, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Crestview Garden of Historic Spring Hill Cemetery, with family and friends serving as Pallbearers.
