MSGT Stephen Raymond Fahey Jr.'s Obituary
MSGT Stephen Raymond Fahey, Jr., USAF Retired, age 85 of Nashville, passed away June 3, 2013. Mr. Fahey was born September 30, 1927 in Nashville to Stephen Raymond, Sr. and Lula Lee Grooms Fahey.
He attended Father Ryan High School and at age 17, enlisted in the Navy in 1945. During World War II, he served in the Pacific on Air Craft Carriers U.S.S. Tarawa, U.S.S. Champagne, U.S.S. Charger and Blimp Squadron. In 1950, he enlisted in the Air Force serving as Radar Operator and Supply Sgt. He served in Korea and Vietnam and received the Bronze Star. After over 22 years of service he retired in 1971 and received the Air Force Commendation Medal. Following his retirement, he did carpentry work.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Altha Mae Fahey and brother-in-law, Walter Pickney. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia Fahey; daughters, Barbara Fahey, Sherrie (Richard) Hutcherson and Terry (Bill) Smith; brothers, Michael (Patricia) and Pat (Barbara) Fahey; sisters, Frances Pickney and Margaret Wolf; grandchildren, Morgan Hutcherson, Tyler Hutcherson and Philip Smith.
A celebration of Mr. Fahey’s life will be conducted at 12 P.M., Friday, June 7, 2013 from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home. Entombment with military honors will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Thursday, June 6 and from 11 A.M. until the time of service, Friday, at Spring Hill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of his granddaughter’s battle with brain cancer to the Hutcherson Fund at any F & M Bank.
