Susan Kay Green's Obituary
It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Mrs. Susan Kay Green, 63, on April 24th, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Susan was the daughter of the late Donnelly Spice and Lorene Rhodes Spice, and was born on October 9th, 1959, in Rochester, Indiana. She was a graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School Class of 1978. She married Rick Green in 1979. For twenty-seven years, Susan worked at Washington Elementary School in Warsaw, Indiana, first as a cafeteria worker, and then as a kindergarten assistant. After being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease, she retired and dedicated her remaining time to her family. The last seven months of her life were spent with her husband/caregiver, Rick, residing in the home of her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren in Nashville, TN.
As a member of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church and woman of God, Christianity was the driving motivation in Susan’s life. She prayed and enjoyed doing her daily devotions and scripture readings. Her Christian beliefs and lifestyle were passed onto her children.
Family was Susan’s passion. All efforts she made in life were for the purpose of supporting and loving her family. She was the sole caregiver of her parents as they aged until they died. When Susan had vacations from work, she welcomed her children to her home or made trips to Tennessee to see them and her loved ones.
Friendship was an important part of Susan’s life. She enjoyed many long walks with her best friend, Barb Smith.
Susan was a great cook. Her family will always remember her thoughtful, delicious meals and her amazing breakfast omelets. Inspired by simplicity, Susan had a particular love of Amish books and she found solace in the wholesome stories and the Christian values they espoused. Susan was also an extraordinary cross stitcher, and her works were intricate and beautiful. Her family will cherish the many monk’s cloth embroidered blankets and cross stitched pictures she created for them over the years, and they will serve as a testament to her skill and creativity.
In addition to her parents Don and Lorene, Susan is preceded in death by her sister Sharon Reed and her brother Dennis Spice. She is survived by her loving husband Rick Duane Green; sons Eric (Amber) Green and Kevin (Vanessa) Green; grandchildren Greyson Green and Violet Green; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
The family cordially invites guests and relatives for a time of visitation on Monday, May 1st, 2023, from ten o’clock in the morning until twelve o’clock in the afternoon, with a funeral service at twelve o’clock in the afternoon, and burial to follow at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216.
Arrangements are entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, “Where Nashville Comes to Remember.”
