Teresa Yvonne Turner's Obituary
Mrs. Teresa Yvonne Turner was born on September 13, 1957 in Decatur, AL to the late Oscar Goodwin, Sr. and Ethelreen Foster. Teresa professed her love for Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Schrader Lane Church of Christ. Teresa was educated in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System. She graduated from Pearl High School in 1975. She attended Tennessee State University where she joined Gamma Sigma Sigma Service Sorority. She married her soul mate Desi in 1978 and they graduated together from TSU in Spring of 1979. Teresa taught at Cohn Adult Learning Center. After receiving a kidney transplant, in 1994, she worked diligently with the National Kidney Foundation to promote organ donation. In 1998, she went on to receive her Masters of Education from Tennessee State University. She also worked at TSU where she taught Developmental Studies. Teresa lived to educate and uplift others. She loved cooking and knitting. One of her greatest achievments was receiving her certification to teach and entering the classroom. Teresa was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 27, 2011 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 33 years, Desi Bernard Turner; loving son, Jarvis Turner; father, John Edward Winn, Sr.; devoted sister, Delores (Sam) Laryea; sisters, Ellen (William) Sanders, Shondrea Winn, Haley Shepard and Bessie Sanders; brothers, John Edward Winn, Jr., Johnnie (Mary) Goodwin, Oscar (Rosal) Goodwin, Jr., Leroy Goodwin; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and good friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 P.M., Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from the Schrader Lane Church of Christ, 1234 Schrader Lane, Nashville, TN 37208 with David Jones, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in historic Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 A.M. until the time of service at the Schrader Lane Church of Christ. Memorial contributions should be made to the National Kidney Foundation or to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
