Mr. Thomas Bates' Obituary
Thomas Eugene Bates, Sr., age 80, of Clarksville, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Born April 22, 1941 in Nashville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Albert Campbell Bates and Lucy Smith Bates.
He was a loving father, brother, “Poppy”, and great grandfather who will be missed dearly. He retired from Colgate Palmolive following 28 years of service. He was a member of Smyrna Holiness Church and a former member of Seventh Avenue Church of Christ in Nashville. He loved trips to The Great Smoky Mountains and Lake Tansi with his family. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren and great grand children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Trena Bates; sister Betty Arnold; brothers Jimmy, Curtis, and Richard Bates.
He is survived by his son Thomas E. (Debbie) Bates, Jr.; daughter Elizabeth Michelle (Charlie) Trotman; sisters Carolyn Edwards and Sandra Craft; grandchildren Lauren (Foster) Hyde, Thomas Kyle (Madison) Bates, Amanda (Steven) Barber, Beth (Dalton) Atkins, Isaac (Annie) Trotman, Branson Trotman, Lindsey Trotman, and Charlie Trotman; great grandchildren Sawyer, Titus, and Charlotte Jane.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville from 4 PM until 8 PM. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 20, at 12 PM noon with Brother Pat Coffey officiating. The family will receive friends and visitors two hours prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
