Mr. Thomas A. Blankenship, Sr.'s Obituary
Major Thomas A. Blankenship, Sr. (Retired), age 83 of Nashville, TN, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015.
Mr. Blankenship was born on November 22, 1931 in Bellsburg, TN the son of the late Clarice and Roy E Blankenship. He considered himself the most Blessed man in the world for having spent sixty years and one day married to Edna Reasoner. His highest ambition was to glorify God, and lead his family and those around him into a relationship with Jesus Christ. He proudly served around the world in the United States Army for 21 years until retiring in 1972. He promptly began his second professional career in 1972, serving as the Employee Relations Officer for the Tennessee Department of Public Health until 1987.
After retiring for the second time in 1987, it would be hard to imagine how anyone could have lived life more fully or enjoyed it more deeply. “Tom and Edna” were soul mates and best friends; consummate parents, grandparents and great grandparents; traveling companions, golf buddies, bowling teammates; and avid followers of the Atlanta Braves and the Vandy Commodores. Tom always served faithfully in a body of believers, from song leader to teacher to pastor search committees…most recently since 2003 at Trevecca Community Church.
Survivors include his wife Edna; two sons, Dan and Tab (Denette) and his daughter Karan (Dwight) Gunter; five grandchildren, Lindsay (Jamin) Wentworth, Trae (Kathleen) Gunter, Ryan (Jill) Blankenship, Cory (Shelby) Blankenship and Ethan Blankenship; three great grandchildren Ben and Carter Wentworth and Averie Blankenship; a sister, Sybil Robinson; and numerous brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters
