Thomas Eugene Edging Sr.'s Obituary
Thomas Eugene Edging Sr., 95, of Murfreesboro, formally of Nashville, Tennessee, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, sitting comfortably in his favorite chair, watching sports with his son, Thomas Eugene Edging, Jr.
Thomas was born in Nashville, Tennessee, to George and Edith Edging. Thomas was the 4th of 12 children, preceded in death by 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Thomas, known as Gene to his family, often teased about being 1 of the "Final 4" siblings and is survived by his "baby" sisters, Lois Fudge, Linda Snow, and Dot Jones .
Thomas attended North High School where he played as center on the high school football team, along with his twin brothers, Roy and Robert. But more importantly, it was where he met his sweetheart and love of his life, Dorothy Craig. Thomas' favorite story is that she had actually winked at him in the 6th grade and he knew it was all over- she was the one!
Thomas and Dorothy were married for 72 years. In addition to being a beloved spouse to Dorothy, he was a loving father to Thomas Edging, Jr (Carole Ann) and to Joan Fisher (Brad).
Thomas' legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the light of his life! His grandchildren include Matt Edging (Alix), Kathryn Wall (Brian), Lauren Lanier (Steve), and Justin Fisher, who preceded him in death. His great-grandchildren include Emerson Lanier, Emily Lanier, Ella Lanier, Levi Wall, Liam Wall, and Ansley Edging.
Following high school, Thomas attended UT Extension School while working at Stauffer Chemical Company. Thomas was well respected for his passion and dedication to his work as an analyst, chemist, and quality control superintendent at the Nashville plant. Although Thomas was too modest to share his accomplishments, he was the author of 2 patents and co-author of 8 others. Thomas retired after 46 years of service from Rhodia Chemical Company (formally Stauffer) and continued to work part time in product development for several years.
Thomas and Dorothy were members of Walter Hill Church of Christ in Murfreesboro. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support provided by their Walter Hill Church family throughout their final years and days. Thomas Eugene Edging, Sr., will be missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. We will cherish his memory.
Memorial Contributions can be made to Muscular Dystrophy in the name of Justin Fisher or to Georgia Agape in the name of Kathryn Wall.
