Thomas Francis Mogan M.D.'s Obituary
MOGAN M.D., Thomas Francis; born in Nashville on August 16, 1928, passed away on June 11, 2011. Dr. Mogan is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dolly Mogan; brothers, Ed and Joe Mogan; sister, Katie Childs and son, Thomas F. Mogan Jr. Dr. Mogan graduated from Cathedral Elementary school and Fr. Ryan School in Nashville. He received a graduate degree from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa and his medical degree from University of Tennessee in Memphis. He completed his internship at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, an Internal Medicine residency at University of Tennessee in Memphis, and a portion of his residency in the military during the Korean War. Dr. Mogan practiced internal medicine for 40 years in Davidson and Sumner counties at Miller Clinic and Nashville Memorial Hospital (Skyline Medical Center). Dr. Mogan was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for over 40 years. After his retirement in 2002, he did volunteer work with a local indigent care clinic and the Nashville Drug and Alcohol Council. He was an active member of the TMA AMA. As a recovering alcoholic for 30 years, Dr. Mogan worked tirelessly by helping other addicts and alcoholics find recovery and peace in their lives. His passions were family, swimming, bird watching, playing the violin, and counseling alcoholics and drug addicts. His private passion was quietly and generously helping those less fortunate than himself. Survivors include his wife, Dotti; two sisters, Sr. Thomasetta Mogan R.S.M. and MarisStella Mogan R.S.M; brother, John; five children, Patty, Susan, Kevin, Joseph and Melissa Mogan; grandchildren, Chelsea (Garret) Stabler, Shannon and Valerie Eason, Tommy, Danny, Joseph and Sarah Mogan, Portia and Dory Gibbs, and 4 great-grandchildren. A special thank you to our friend and pastor, Father Joe McMahon, who was with us through it all; Deacon Ted Welsh and Dan Strichcomb for their dedication and time; Steve Davis; Victoria and Roger Lovell and to our St. Joseph community for all your prayers; to Dr. Lara Goff of Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center; Alive Hospice – especially Janie Taylor, Victoria Mallett and Tasha Bond; last but certainly not least, our warmest thanks to Freda Grigsby, may she rest in peace. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Joseph Church, North Nashville Outreach and Sisters of Mercy. Visitation will be at St. Joseph Church from 5-7PM on Monday, June, 13, 2011 with a Rosary at 7PM. The funeral mass will also be at St. Joseph Church at 10AM on Tuesday June 14, 2011 with Father Joe McMahon officiating. Active pallbearers are Marty Morgan, Eddie Vaughn, Mike Potts, Al Fleck, Joe Fricault and Patti McCoy. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Etter, Mac McCoy and the AA Searchers Group of Hendersonville.
