Thomas Horace Rains, born March 25, 1929, passed away on October 18, 2013. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Jeanne Buck Rains, parents, Horace H. and Lillie Bolton Raines; step-mother, Elizabeth Deaton Raines; sister, Ruth Ann Smith and grandson, Clayton Smith. Survived by beloved wife of 6 years, Betty Killebrew Davis Rains; children, Debbie Bumbalough (Mike) of Madison, Drusilla Rains of Spring Hill, David Rains (Lori) of Goodlettsville, Melanie Martin (Jim) of Nashville, and Michael Rains (Donna) of Collierville, TN; step-children, Dr. Gary Davis (Lisa) of Hendersonville, Linda Jones (Larry) of Goodlettsville, and Lisa Bain (Chris) of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Matt Bumbalough (Gena), Julie Perry (Kenyatta), Megan Wiseman (Chris), Sally Lipke (Nathan), Ben Rains (Vanessa), Hunter Burris (Brandon), Carson and Darbie Rains, Daniel Martin (Chelsea), Jordan and Mitchell Martin, Colin and Kyle Rains; step-grandchildren, Travis Jones, Tyler Jones (Jenn), Kyle Davis (Liza), Mitchell Davis (Kimberly), Cameron, Kelsey and Caleb Bain; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce White of Nashville, Judy Tidwell (Cam) of Silver Spring, MD, Pamela Woodard (Billy) of Joelton; step-sisters, Betty Burton of Springfield, Sandra Lawrence (John) of Goodlettsville and Cindy Stricklin (David) of Nashville. He was a graduate of Cohn High School where he was a star football player, a member of and former deacon of Jackson Park Church of Christ for 34 years and a former member of and deacon at Neely’s Bend Church of Christ for 25 years. He enjoyed teaching young people, fishing, hunting and camping. Mr. Rains retired from Bellsouth Telephone Company after 41 years of service. He passed away after a battle with cancer since 1991. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Habib Doss and staff of Tennessee Oncology Midtown and to the staff of Gentiva Hospice. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October 21st at 11:00 A.M. from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Bumbalough and Bro. Jim Olive officiating. Interment will follow in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, October 20th from 1-6 P.M. and on Monday from 9:00 A.M. until service time. Active Pallbearers will be: Matt Bumbalough, Gary Davis, Larry Jones, Daniel Martin, Jim Martin, Carl Williams, Cecil Robertson and Billy Wilson, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are the Elders and Deacons of Jackson Park Church of Christ.
