He was born May 31, 1916 in Woodbury, TN. He was the son of Richard Higgins and Ida Lee Mason Higgins. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles Higgins, Hilton Higgins, Clarence Higgins, Denzle Higgins and Calvin Higgins; five sisters, Burlyn Edwards, Dean Shirley, Jessie Reese, Irene Saunders and Joan Arnold. He spent most of his business career as a real estate broker and appraiser, also serving as a certified assessor for the Tennessee State Board of Equalization. He was a senior member of the American Right of Way Association, former president of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and the recipient of the “Distinguished Service” award from the Nashville Chapter. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Evelyn Ogle Higgins. Together they raised two sons, Dennis Wayne Higgins and Andrew Gilley Higgins. His family also includes two daughter-in-laws, Alice Higgins and Linda Higgins. He was blessed with three grandchildren; Jennifer Ansley Black, Scott Higgins and Julie Higgins; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Black and William Black. His brother, Richard Higgins, Jr. and sister, Elizabeth Searcy also survive. A celebration of Mr. Higgins’ life will be conducted at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, March 17, 2012 from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Andrew Benedict, III officiating. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:45 A.M., on Saturday at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Memorial contributions should be made to Alive Hospice or to the Humane Society.
