Mrs. Velma Lois Cook's Obituary
Velma Lois Cook, 95, of Franklin, Tennessee, (formerly of Nashville) passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Born December 10, 1927, in Old Hickory, she was the daughter of the late Donald Bryant Brooks and Mary Emily Marsh Brooks.
Velma loved to garden and often grew vegetables not just for herself, but for everyone else as well. She was a woman of strong Christian faith. She attended Christian Fellowship Tabernacle and loved to sing gospel at church and at home with her family. She enjoyed playing board games, quilting and crotcheting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Obie Junior Cook; son Kenneth Overton Cook; daughter Linda Walters.
She is survived by her daughters Marilyn (Ronnie) George and Wanda (Charles) Jackson; sister-in-law Janice McMurtry; grandchildren Ronald Wayne (Donna) Walters, Jr., Chris (Angela) Walters, Leah (David) Heyman, Mark (Christie) George, and Ronnie Lee (Diana) George, Jr.; great grandchildren Amber Epley, Clarah Floyd, Kayla George, Jayden Schildt, Abby George, Nate George, Jake George, Jack George, McKenzie George, Gracie George, Ruthie George, Josh George, Rusty George, Caleb James, Josh Heyman, Daniel Heyman, Hayley Beth Bass, Cheyenne Walters, Keona Hadley, Bryson Walters, Landon Walters, and Breona Walters; several great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 25, from 4 pm until 8 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville. A Celebration of Velma’s Life with Brother Doug Caldwell will take place 2 pm Friday, May 26 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Eulia Church Cemetery in Westmoreland at 4:30 pm.
