Ms. Velva Ann Clopton DeMarcus' Obituary
Velva Ann Clopton DeMarcus, Born April 6th, 1931 in Paducah, Ky. Ann was an Operator for the Phone Company until she married and began the life of a traveling lineman’s wife. They started having children right away and she often talked about how her first three children were born in three different states. They settled in Madison, Tennessee in the late 50’s and this is where they planted their roots.
Ann was a longtime member of City Road United Methodist Church, The Bass Class Sunday School, and the Eastern Star. Throughout the years she and Neal were active in various groups like the Barnlofters Square Dance Club where they made lifelong friends. When their dancing days ended this close group of friends continued to gather regularly, usually at a Cabin retreat in West Tennessee. After Neal retired, in 1998, they lived out their lifelong dream of traveling the world. Their early trips included vacations to Hawaii, Ireland, London, Spain, France, and Alaska. Their later years were spent traveling the entire continental United States in a new conversion van he purchased for them to see the world. They would leave out on Memorial Day and return on Labor Day. After only a few Summers they had visited every continental state. The stories they told of their travels were entertaining to all and gave us something to look forward to on their return. They also brought back rocks from every state they visited. There were a lot of rocks. How fitting, since she was the rock, the very foundation her family was built on.
Ann was known by many names, Mother, Mom, Memaw, Ms. Ann. She loved with all her heart and was loved by all who knew her. When we asked a child what she would remember most about Memaw, the answer sums it up perfectly; “Memaw had the happiest eyes and smile. She loved everyone. And she loved you whether you were good or bad. If you were bad, she loved you even more because you needed it.” We couldn’t have said it better. Ann loved, it was her greatest talent. That and making the best carrot cake you ever tasted.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents Winfield and Vera Clopton, Husband Neal B. DeMarcus, Son Jeffrey Alan DeMarcus, Sister Betty Tidwell. Survived by Children; Don (Jan) DeMarcus, Sherry DeMarcus, Kathy (Matt) Dozier, Rosemarie (David) Hooper, and Teresa DeMarcus. Grandchildren; Danny (Kristy) DeMarcus, Chad (Doris) DeMarcus, Jason (Collette) DeMarcus, Joshua DeMarcus, Jeremy Hooper, Andy (Christina) Hooper, Adam (Heather) Hooper, and Travis DeMarcus. Twelve great grandchildren. Also a countless number of young men, women and their children that were loved by her the same as her own.
Pallbearers will be her eight grandsons, Danny, Chad, Jason, Joshua, Jeremy, Adam, Andy and Travis.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4
