Virgie Elrod Clouse's Obituary
CLOUSE, Virgie Elrod, passed away August 8, 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert O. Clouse; and her parents Owen and Flossie Elrod. Virgie was born July 16, 1912 in Cookeville, Tennessee. She was one of 12 children, 7 half brothers and sisters and 4 sisters; Etta, Arizona, Minnie and Mytrus.Virgie and her family moved to Coffee County Tennessee from Cookeville, Tennessee in 1914. It was there she grew up on the family farm, a place she continued to actively help manage until her death. She married Robert O. Clouse in March of 1932 in Manchester, Tennessee, and then moved to Nashville where Robert was employed by the E.I. DuPont Company. She is survived by her son, Dr. R. Wilburn Clouse. She celebrated her 98th birthday with a party of over 100 guests on the family farm in July. She continued to live in her own home and drive her own car until her death. She was filled with ideas, energy and would take on any new ventures. She and her husband, Robert constructed 6 houses during their lifetime together as well as continuing in their full time work. Virgie was employed for more than 20 years at Farm and Ranch Publishing Company. She was a great friend to many and a source of inspiration to all that knew her. Her zeal for living permeated her life and the lives of others. To all who knew her she was one of a kind & a beautiful, caring lady filled with hope and promise for the future. She will be forever missed by her family and her many friends. She and her husband Robert were members of the Trinity Lane Church of Christ for more than forty years and she has been a member of the Madison Church of Christ for twenty five years. She lived a full and productive life for ninety eight years and enjoyed serving the needs of others. Funeral services will be conducted at Spring Hill Funeral Home chapel, Wednesday August 11th at 11:00AM with Brother Phil Barnes officiating. Internment will follow at the Fredonia Cemetery in Manchester, Tennessee. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday 4-8PM and Wednesday 9-11AM at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery 5110 Gallatin Road Nashville, TN. 1-(615)-865-1101.
