Virgil Lee “Duddy” Walden, Sr., age 78, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 in Murfreesboro. Duddy was born in Nashville on February 7, 1942 to the late Vester Franklin Walden and Frances (Trapp) Walden.
Duddy enjoyed drag racing cars and thoroughly enjoyed the time that he could go drag racing with his sons. He was an auto mechanic for many years and can be remembered as one of the best in his trade. Duddy loved popcorn and pizza, not just any kind – but pepperoni and sausage from Sir Pizza; he passed this love down to his children and grandchildren. He was a man of faith and attended the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. He cherished his family, and the life that he was blessed with.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Walden.
Duddy is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Brenda (Pirtle) Walden; daughter, Joni Chandler (Roger); sons, Lee Walden (Angie) and Kenny Wayne Walden, and Davis Taylor (Debbie); sisters, Gale Porter and Cindy Guthoerl; brother, Kenneth Walden; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 2 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home with Davis Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 4-8 pm and on Wednesday from 12-2 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Will Guthoerl, Cody Guthoerl, John Walden, Austin Chandler, Jonah Walden, and Mitchell Walden.
