Gina Turner leaves a legacy that has touched multitudes. One of her great strengths was that of advocate and teacher. She was intimidated by none and went above and beyond what was expected to assure that the needs of patients were met. As nurse educator, she served as mentor to nurses, physicians, students, the experienced and novices. She was a huge supporter of hospice, especially Alive Hospice in Nashville. She contributed to improving the quality of life for numerous patients and families throughout her career. With her passion, experience and expertise as a nurse in working with those with life-limiting diagnoses and the terminally ill, she helped to launch what has become an full-fledged palliative care program at Vanderbilt Medical Center. The impact of her passion and accomplishments is far greater than we may even realize. I am proud to have known her and grateful for the trail she blazed for me and countless others past, present and future.
