W Eugene Akers' Obituary
Celebrating the Life of W. Eugene Akers
We celebrate the beautiful life of W. Eugene Akers, a man whose quick humor and gentle heart made every room feel brighter. Loyal, hardworking, kind, and remarkably intelligent, he filled 83 years with steady warmth and easy laughter.
Born on September 29th, 1941, Eugene carried those shining traits into four years of proud Air Force service from 1964 to 1968 at a North Dakota base. Friends often recalled how his calm focus and ready smile kept spirits high even during long shifts.
Away from uniform, Eugene found joy in music and books, often pairing a favorite record with a well-loved novel on quiet evenings. Four affectionate Maine Coon cats and a devoted German shepherd rarely left his side, proving his reputation as a true animal lover.
Family meant everything to him. He shared a loving marriage with the late Joylyn Akers and raised three children—Scott Akers (Patricia), Kirk Akers (Debra), and Sherri Holland (Kevin)—who carry forward his steady guidance. Seven grandchildren—Midnight Akers, Brandon Moss (Nicole), Tim Akers, Justin Holland (Katie), Christopher Holland (Hannah), Kelli Sheffield (James), and Sarah Akers, and his man great grandchildren—knew him as the grand-dad who turned every visit into a cheerful adventure.
Stories of Eugene’s playful jokes and patient advice will remain favorite memories at gatherings. Whether recommending a classic novel or sharing a grin while the pets curled at his feet, he showed that small moments build a lasting legacy.
Today we remember Eugene with smiles, grateful for a life well-lived and well-loved. May every shared song, every turned page, and every happy family story keep his bright spirit close.
