Mr. W. D. Donnell Sr.'s Obituary
W.D. Donnell, Sr. passed away December 2, 2018, at The Gardens at Providence Memory Care in Mt. Juliet, TN. Born June 25, 1928, to John and Maggie Harrell Donnell, he is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Irma Jean Jackson Donnell and his son, Johnny Cleveland Donnell. W.D. is survived by his daughter, Rosalyn Horton, and his son, W.D. (Jan) Donnell, Jr., grandchildren, Shane (Trin) Horton, Sundai (Stephen) Williams, Shalako (Kim) Horton, Daniel Donnell, and Dustin (Christen) Donnell, seven great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The youngest of five children, W.D. attended North High School. In the late 1950’s, he served in the Medical Corp of the Tennessee National Guard as a dental assistant. Most notable on his work resume were Baptist Sunday School Board, Neuhoff Packing, and Dupont, ending with 35 years at Ford Motor Glass Company. During his thirty plus years in retirement he continued his involvement with UAW Local 737. W.D. was a long- time member of Nashville First Church of the Nazarene where he attended the Cornerstone Sunday School Class. He celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by family and friends in June.
To celebrate W.D.’s life, the family request that all attendees feel free to dress in vibrant attire. Visitation will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 2-8pm and from 1-2pm on Thursday, December 6, 2018. Services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 2pm in the Chapel at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alive Hospice, Nashville First Church of the Nazarene, or a charity of your choice.
