Mr. Walter Roy Griffith Jr.'s Obituary
Walter Roy Griffith, Jr., age 97 of Nashville passed away June 13, 2014. Roy was born July 9, 1916 in Nashville, TN to the late Walter Roy Griffith, Sr. and Mary Chilton Griffith. Roy graduated from TPS in 1935 and attended Maryville College. He remained active in the TPS Alumni Association for many years. Throughout high school and afterwards he was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and was a former scoutmaster. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and retired from Dixie Electrotype after many years of service. Following retirement he volunteered his time with the Senior Citizens Center and was the oldest member of Tulip Street United Methodist Church where he was a former church treasurer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Henry Harvey and Alvin Barry Griffith; and sisters, Gracie B. Griffith Elrod and Daisy Chilton Griffith Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Griffith; daughter, Suzanne (Anthony) Curtis; grandchildren, Cara M. Curtis and Christopher G. Curtis; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, June 16th at 12:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Matthew Baldwin officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tulip Street United Methodist Church or Alive Hospice.
