Walter Edward Hopkins' Obituary
Mr. Walter Edward Hopkins, a man of many talents and a heart full of kindness, passed away on May 2nd, 2024. Born on April 8th, 1935, he lived a rich and meaningful life that touched the hearts of those who knew him.
Walter served his country as a Marine, demonstrating courage and dedication to duty. But it was his role as the “singing barber” in East Nashville during the 70s and 80s that truly left an indelible mark. With his trusty banjo and guitar, he serenaded patrons with country and gospel tunes, creating a harmonious atmosphere in his barbershop.
As a man of faith, Walter later became a Chaplain, ministering to others in their times of need. His beautiful smile and caring demeanor brought comfort to many. Despite an injury from a motorcycle stunt that prevented him from riding, his love for motorcycles endured. He also had a passion for cars, appreciating their design and power.
Family was paramount to Walter. He cherished his sisters and brothers, especially his sister Margaret. As a father, he raised his children by the Bible, instilling values of love, compassion, and integrity.
Today, we remember Walter Edward Hopkins not only for his talents and accomplishments but for the love he shared with those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of family, friends, and the community he touched. May he rest in peace, singing with the angels in heaven.
In addition to his parents Edward and Carrie Hopkins, Walter is preceded in death by his children Arnold Hopkins, Sandra White, and Kenneth Hopkins He is survived by his daughters Jana (Murray) Johnson and Susan Casey; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret Catherine Necdhen and Rebecca Phillips; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
