Wesley Freeman Buttrey, Sr., 82, of Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021. Born August 19, 1939, in Nashville, he was the son of the late Clinton Earl Buttrey and Sadie Adams Buttrey.
Mr. Buttrey was a loving father and grandfather who will be missed dearly. As a younger man, Wesley was gifted at fighting and excelled in the Golden Gloves boxing tournaments. He enjoyed spending time at his place on Kentucky Lake fishing, and at his farm in Cumberland Furnace. He enjoyed watching sports on television and was a big fan of anything associated with the SEC athletic conference. Most recently he worked with his lifelong friend Jerry Poole as a salesman with Peggy's Auto Sales.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Gina McGuffey; brothers James Willard, Orville, Raymond, and Kenneth; sisters Dora, Sara, and Florene.
He is survived by his son Wesley Freeman (Stephanie) Buttrey, Jr.; daughters Kelly Bayliss and Jerrie Lynn (Michael) Brown; grandchildren Blake Buchheimer, Jade Buchheimer, Courtney Bayliss and Trinity “Dante” Buttrey; great grandson Jackson Shipley.
Visitation will be Friday, December 31 from 12 PM until 2 PM at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 2 PM. Burial will take place in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
