He is survived by his “darling wife” Linda, whom he was married to for 51 years; his daughter, Jamie Adams; two loving granddaughters, Carly Adams and Lorinda Grace Adams, and beloved dog, Daniel. William is preceded in death by his parents, William Stokes Adams and Ruth Young Adams, and his brother Dr. Richard G. Adams. William was born and raised in East Nashville. William had a tenacious work ethic beginning at a young age where as a boy he worked at his father’s H.G. Hill’s Grocery Store. This work ethic continued throughout his life, right up until his passing. He was a graduate of Isaac Litton High School, and earned his Associate’s Degree in Mortuary Science from John A. Gupton College in 1965. After graduation, William went on to serve families in the Nashville and East Nashville communities as a funeral director and embalmer at both Roach Patton and Phillips & Robinson Funeral Homes. At the time of his death, William served as a Construction Inspector for the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) where he served for 35 years. William was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughter, and granddaughters. He was always his daughter’s and granddaughters’ biggest supporter with all school, church, and Girl Scout activities, where he was an avid Girl Scout cookie salesman. He was kind, loving, selfless to a fault, and eager to support and help whenever and wherever he could. He enjoyed traveling to Dahlonega, GA, with his family, metal detecting, and spending time outdoors. William was a Freewill Mason, member of the Scottish Rite, and Shriner with the Al Menah Shrine. William was a lifelong Christian. He was a member and usher at Faith Baptist Church in Nashville, TN. William was his family’s rock and will be greatly missed by his family. Pallbearers will be Kevin Johnson, Jimmy Jackson, Chris Ellis, John Vick, Alan Smith, and granddaughter and best buddy Carly Adams. Visitation for William will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 2 PM until 8 PM and again on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 12 PM until 2 PM at which time a Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be conducted from the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN, 37216.
