Dr. William Albert Pettit's Obituary
Dr. William Albert Pettit passed away May 11, 2018 in Nashville, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Stanley Pettit and Mary Daves Baldwin; Stepmother, Carolyn Trewhitt Pettit; and brother Rev. Frank Pettit.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Pettit; son, Steve Pettit; daughter, Susan (Brian) Pettit- Riley; grandchildren, Caroline and Grace Riley; brother, Robert (Kathy) Pettit; and many other loving family members, nieces and nephews.
Bill was a member of Dalewood United Methodist Church in Nashville, TN for 52 years where he served on many committees and was a founding member of the church foundation. He was a member of the Tennessee Conference board of Church Extension and helped establish two congregations. Bill and his wife, Glenda participated in lay witness meetings in several states and got to see many people turn their lives around and even become ministers. He later attended Hendersonville First United Methodist Church.
Bill was Born June 24, 1934 in Cleveland, TN. He graduated from Tennessee Tech University and University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis. Early in his career he served in the U.S. public Health Services in Philadelphia, Mississippi as the chief medical officer. He specialized in Internal Medicine and practiced for many years with Miller Medical Group in East Nashville and later with Skyline Medical Associates in addition to serving as medical director at several nursing homes. He loved his patients and considered it a privilege to assist them.
Bill was active in boy scouts and was a team doctor for Stratford High School football team for many years.
Bill was married to college sweetheart, Glenda for 60 years who he met at church.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Vanco Healthcare and Rehabilitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Dalewood United Methodist Church in Nashville, TN.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 6-8pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home. A celebration of life funeral service will be held Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Spring Hill Funeral Home at 11 am with an hour of visitation prior. Interment to follow at Middle TN Veterans Cemetery.
