William Tandy's Obituary
William Henry Tandy, Jr., age 95 of Nashville, passed away on April 10, 2012. Mr. Tandy was born October 3, 1916 in Nashville, TN to William Henry, Sr. and Myra Nipher Tandy. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served until 1946. During his military career, he served on the USS Skate, the first submarine entering Tokyo Bay during the final days of World War II. Following his discharge from the Navy, he graduated from Vanderbilt University and began working for Phillips Petroleum. He then joined Westvaco, working in pesticide research before taking a job surveying construction of the U.S. Interstate system in WV. He later joined Addressograph-Multigraph, working with a research team developing technology for computerized printing processes as well as ink and ribbon technology. His research in these fields made possible the advancement in technology concerning pesticide production as well as innovations in the printing industry. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 39 years, Madalyn H. Tandy; brothers, Russell and Herbert Tandy; sisters, Maxine Fuqua, Phyllis Tandy and Margaret Wallace; and grandchild, Christopher Pomeroy. He is survived by his sons, Lewis and Norman Tandy; daughters, Katherine Pomeroy and Sharon Kitowski; sister, Matilda Elodee Evans; and grandchildren, Lauren Tandy, Aaron Tandy and Brittany Pomeroy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to Vanderbilt University College of Arts and Science at 301 Kirkland Hall, Nashville, TN 37240. Services will be private.
