Willie Mae Malone's Obituary
Willie Mae Ursery Malone, age 91, passed away in Asheville, NC, on Sunday, March 20, 2011. A descendant of early Davidson and Williamson County settlers, she was born August 1, 1919 to Will and Sybil Vaughan Ursery at Linton, Tennessee, Mrs. Malone was the oldest of nine daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Vernon Lewis Malone, Sr.; by sisters Annie Belle Bedwell, Frances Lucille Craig, Leila Sorey Jones, Mary Rachel Jones; and by nephew, Glen Jones and niece, Becky K. Gentry. Mrs. Malone graduated from East High School and completed a Certificate of Business at the Watkins Institute. She was a faithful Christian for 76 years and was most recently a member of the Madison Church of Christ where she worshipped for more than 30 years. In addition to working with her husband in the family grocery and construction businesses, she was employed for 27 years at Mckendree Village Inc. as Staff Coordinator, and most recently worked part-time for 8 years at Lakeshore Heartland as a receptionist. She was known for her love of quilting and crocheting and had been a member of the Quilters Group at Madison Church of Christ, the Sewing Club at McKendree Towers and the Heartland Ladies Association. She was especially known for her kind and friendly disposition, and she made friends of all whom she met.She is survived by four sisters: Martha Nell Johnson (R. C.) of St. Simon, GA; Betty Jean Morrow of Westmoreland, TN; Peggy Joyce Valcik (Jerry) of Burleson, TX, and Eleanor Ruth Baggett (Tommy) of Springfield, TN. Mrs. Malone is also survived by four children: Judy Carolyn Butler (Ralph) of Nashville, Vernon Lewis Malone, Jr. (Jackie) of Asheville, NC, Freddie Mae Power (David, MD) of Charlotte, NC and Billie Kay Axley (Danny) of Lobelville, TN; and by six grandchildren: Jonathan William Butler, MD (Emily) Nashville, Stephen Gregory Butler (Kimberly) of Nashville, Jon David Power (Chris) of Durham, NC, Wendye Henderson (Albert) of New Bern, NC, Jay Power (Susie) of Franklin, TN, and Sean Malone of Birmingham, AL; and by nine great-grand children: Clare Elizabeth Henderson, Anna Grace Henderson and Margaret McNeill Henderson; Samuel Pierce Butler; Lillian Hope Butler and Victoria Lane Butler; Lula Mae Power and Shadie Lee Power; Asher Josiah Power and Tobin David Power; and by two step-grandchildren, Edie Axley and Charlie Axley. Mrs. Malone also leaves several beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Malone requested donations be made to the McKendree Golden Cross Benevolent Fund, or to the Benevolent Room at Madison Church of Christ. Much appreciation is given by her family for the care she received from medical staff at Summit Hospital; by the staff at the Dialysis Clinic, Inc. (DCI) at Summit Hospital, by the staff at the McKendree Health Center North on numerous occasions, and for the loving care provided by Ethel Dodson and Faye German at McKendree. The family is also grateful for the excellent care provided by various medical staffs in Asheville, NC.
