Wilma Cleo Maulden Zahalka's Obituary
Wilma Cleo Maulden Zahalka of Nashville passed away on January 20th following a brief illness with cancer. Wilma was born on December 18, 1918 to the late Joseph Berry and Viola Porter Maulden in Colquit County, Georgia. She spent most of her early years in Florida. Since 1951 she was resident of Nashville with her husband Joseph H. Zahalka. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nashville where she taught Sunday school. She also spent many years as an employee of Cosmopolitan Health Studio. She was known as a gracious hostess and wonderful cook. She was also an avid and competitive bridge player. She took great delight in her family, especially her children and grandchildren. During her early years in Nashville she worked as a fashion model. She is preceded in death by her husband, daughter Tanya Cora Zahalka Carpenter, brothers John Richard and Ernest D. Maulden and sisters Bertha Maulden Driggers and Jewell Ellen Maulden. Kirkland. She is survived by her sons Joseph H. Zahalka, Jr. and Jeffrey M. Zahalka, grandchildren Kelly Michelle and Christina Thearle Zahalka, Phillip Carpenter, Shay Zahalka Martin, Angela Zahalka, Jennifer Krebs and Deborah Shapiro. She is also survived by her sister Nathalie Maulden Fallin and brothers Hoyt P. and Charles B. Maulden, daughter-in-law Natalie Steel Zahalka and son-in-law David M. Carpenter. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
