Woody C Harris' Obituary
A Gentle Hand and a Giving Heart: Remembering Woody C. Harris
May 20th, 1945 – August 17th, 2025
Woody C. Harris, age 80, of Hendersonville, TN passed away on August 17, 2025, at home while watching a western movie and enjoying a nighttime snack in his chair.
Woody was born on May 20, 1945, in Jefferson City, MO to the late James Cliford and Mary Ruth Holley. After his mother passed away, Woody and his brothers, Frank and Leonard were sent to an orphanage where Woody was later adopted by the late Colan and Lorene Harris as a young boy. Woody served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War stationed overseas in Ditton Priors, United Kingdom and stateside at Ft. Benning. After serving in the Army, he worked for Bellsouth/AT&T as a telephone technician for 35 years.
Woody married his late devoted wife, Juanita “Frances” Hayes in 1971. They built a home where warmth came first in Hendersonville, TN. Their sons, Frankie (Kim) Harris and Stephen (Susan) Harris, felt that steady support every day and now carry it forward.
Woody’s hands were rarely still; handyman projects filled his spare time, and repairing anything that needed to be and sometimes things that did not need to be. He was always helping as a kind gesture to someone who needed it.
Western movies, country music, and a good sports game kept him smiling, and he welcomed anyone to share those moments, especially his family. He was a devout Christian and active deacon at his church, Neely’s Bend Church of Christ. His devotion to the Gospel was at the heart of everything he did in life. Although he loved his life on earth, he was eager to be with his wife again in heaven.
Nothing pleased Woody more than time with his grandchildren—Logan, Cole, Robert, Jonathan, Meredith, and Frances. Their laughter was his pride and joy, and his gentle encouragement helped each child feel seen and valued.
Woody leaves memories shaped by kindness rather than grand words. May we honor him by staying charitable, inviting, and willing to help, just as he always was.
