Ann Hathcock Watrous' Obituary
Ann Louise Hathcock Watrous, passed away July 6, 2022 at the age of 79, 2 days shy of her 80th birthday. She is survived by her only sibling, Milton Hathcock (Diane Hathcock), along with her children Mark Watrous, Robin Watrous North (Ash North), and Susie Watrous Merritt (Stacey Merritt, Matthew Faulkner, Levi Merritt, and Tiffany Merritt). She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Dorothy Hathcock.
Ann lived her life by example, touching the lives of all she met with charity and kindness, regardless of your station in life. She was born into a family who has lived in Nashville since its founding. She grew up in Inglewood, and attended Jere Baxter School, and later Isaac Litton High school where she made lifelong friends. Her circle of girlfriends from school remember her fondly as the most intelligent of their group, characterizing her as a beautiful, sweet lady, with strong faith. After college, she married a naval officer, making friends from coast to coast. Pouring herself into Naval life, she volunteered at the military hospital in Patuxent River, MD. Despite being one of the youngest wives of an officer, she hosted frequent visitors, played bridge, and held dinner parties, displaying the utmost aplomb and grace. She went on to work at Willis Corroon, a worldwide insurance brokerage firm, where she was a well-respected claims adjuster, exhibiting the highest work ethic. She completed her work life, following in her father’s footsteps, for the State of Tennessee in the department of Weights and Measures. Her workmates affectionately called her the “bathroom monitor” because she was situated close to the facilities, but more because she often would speak to you, asking how the things that were important in your life were going, because it was important to her. After retiring she loved to play bridge with her friends from church, a game at which she excelled, or have a “girl’s day out” at the movies and lunch, making sure to include friends from all walks of life.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, July 10 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road in Nashville. The funeral will be held on Monday, July 11 at 2:00 pm also at the funeral home with one hour of visiting prior to the service. The committal will immediately follow.
