Dr. Charles B. Beck, M.D., 87, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022. Born May 22, 1934 in Paragould, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Rev. Olaf Leon Beck and Cyprene Lucretia Charles Beck.
Dr. Charles Beck practiced Internal Medicine for 48 years in Nashville, Tennessee.
Upon moving to Nashville Charles first worked as a staff physician at Middle Tennessee Tuberculosis Hospital in 1966.
In 1967 he entered private practice joining a group of Medical Internists in Madison, Tennessee. (Dr. Card, Dr. Hagen, and Dr. High)
Charles served as elected Chief of the Medical Staff of Nashville Memorial Hospital in 1977 while maintaining a very busy private practice. He worked extensively in the intensive care unit and treated respiratory failure patients with ventilator support.
Dr. Beck set up the first Pulmonary Function Laboratory (known as a Respiratory Laboratory) at Tennessee Christian Medical Center and Nashville Memorial Hospital.
He was appointed to the Board of Trust at Nashville Memorial Hospital in 1977 and served until 1997 when Memorial Hospital was sold to HCA.
1999 Dr. Beck moved his practice to Tennessee Christian Medical Center while still remaining on active staff at Memorial Hospital.
He retired in 2008 from Skyline Hospital after 48 years of dedication to serving his patients, fellow colleges, and hospital staff at 3 different hospitals.
Dr. Beck served on the board of the Nashville Memorial Foundation 1997-2015. He served as an emeritus member from 2015-2022. The board was a charitable corporation charged with reinvesting the funds from the sale of Memorial Hospital back into the community. Charles loved serving on the Foundation Board and being part of the decision making process to reinvest back into the community he had so dearly served for 48 years.
After retirement Dr. Beck became board certified, in Integrative Holistic Medicine becoming one of 1500 physicians in the U.S. who held certifications in both Internal Medicine and Integrative Holistic Medicine in 2012.
Always an avid learner Dr. Beck read and studied literature on the latest discussions regarding Integrative Holistic Medicine.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Angela Logan Beck.
He is survived by his children Sheryl (CSM George D.) Gates, Keith B. (Carla) Beck, and Lisa Beck-Brooks; brother in-law George (Dorothy) Logan; grandchildren Keith Alan (Sarah) Beck, Stephen Kyle (Jessica) Beck, Michael Ryan (Lindsey) Beck, Nicholas Brooks, and Alyssa Brooks; great grandchildren Avenly Beck, Judah Beck, Hudson Beck, Lucas Beck, Amelia Beck, and Charles (Charlie) Beck.
A visitation will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 4 PM until 8 PM. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, May 12, at 11:30 AM at the funeral home with family receiving friends and visitors from 10 am until 11:30 am. Entombment will follow in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
