Major Curtis Lanier McKenzie, 88, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020. He was born July 2, 1931 in Oak Park, Georgia.
Curtis was a retired Major in the United States Army. He entered the military at the end of World War II and was a veteran of the Vietnam War and Korean Conflict. Curtis was a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds he received in Korea. He also earned a Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, 2 Overseas Service Bars, Vietnam Staff Service Medal (1st Class), Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 campaign stars, National Defense Service Medal and a Master Parachutist Badge. He was a member of the Masons and Shriners. Curtis enjoyed fishing, boats and was excellent at working with his hands. The thing he loved most in the life was his wife, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of 60 plus years, Virginia Bell Estes McKenzie; grandchildren Monica Lynn Hosford, Shane (Rebecca) Nicholas, Jamie (Amy) Hobdy, Angel Beason and Tiffany Ann (Brandon) Birdwell; great grandchildren Megan, Michael, Kayla, Shane Jr, Jewel, Kayla, Grace, Devin, Stephanie, Jodi, Hunter, and Corinne; and 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation and funeral services for family only will take place at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville. Entombment accompanied by military honors will take place at the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
