Mr. Donald Ray Hamilton's Obituary
Donald Ray Hamilton, age 85 of White House, TN. passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015
He began his career in the Nashville Branch of GMAC Financial Services in 1950 , which covered Middle Tennessee and the Bowling Green, Ky. Area. In 1953 he became the Accounting Manager and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1991. As President of the Centennial Park Optimist Club in 1960, he initiated the Optimist Relays and directed the meet for over thirty years. He instituted Girls Track in 1968 and in 1974 the Optimist Champion was recognized as the first girls Metro Champion. The meet was subsequently renamed and continues as the Metro Track and Field Championship for boys and girls. He served as the official scorer for the Tennessee State Track Meet from 1970 – 1995. Mr. Hamilton was active in music for most of his adult life. He joined the Men of Harmony Barbershop Chorus in 2008 and joined the Goodnews Gospel Quartet in 2012.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty six years, Alma Louise Hamilton. He is survived by his children, Donnie (Sue), Richard (Debra), Cheryl (Bill) and Kevin (Kumiko); grandchildren, Michael Hamilton, Daniel Hamilton, Ryan (Brittany) Hamilton, Kelly (Kellie) Hamilton, Kory Hamilton, Holly Hamilton, Garrett (Nikki) Foster and Amanda Foster; great-grandchildren, Elin Helton Ellie Helton and Aubrey Hamilton.
His family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3 and from 9 a.m. until his Celebration of Life Service at 10 a.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by Lonnie Gabel and J. D. Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Harmony Barbershop Chorus. His grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
Interment will be in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alive Hospice, 1810 Patterson St. Nashville, TN. Services entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin RD. (615) 8/65-1101
