My Grandmother, Velma Bateman was very close friends with Mrs. Eva and did not learn of her good friends passing until after her funeral service. She would like to speak with a close family member of Mrs. Eva's. I know this is a long shot but if someone see's this could you please e-mail me at [email protected] so that I can get my Grandmother in touch with someone. I am so sorry for your family's loss, my Grandmother loved her very much. Thank you for any help, Lindsay Bateman.
My heartfelt sympathy for the Duke family. My Mom, Faye Shoemake, is just torn up over the loss of her dear friend of so many years. And I know the world is a lesser place because of her loss. I can imagine though Mrs. Duke checking out God's china cabinet to see which pattern will look best with the bouquet she's picked. She was a jewel!

Eva will be missed by my Mother as well as myself. Her graciousness and funny sense of humor always made us laugh. Her luncheons for the "girls" that she had over the years were always wonderful with stories shared and laughs around the table. She was definitely an incredible hostess and a friend to us. She was always there to listen if you needed an ear... She is now a Guardian Angel to all who knew her. Prayers for the Duke family...Eva... you were loved...

I met Eva and Pete when we moved into the cul-d-e sac in 2000- it was at a KENO night and I loved her and everything she stood for from that moment on. Her luscious and beautiful gardens, her grand decorating, her love for being with the children in the neighborhood, having tea parties for the girls, giving us all lessons on how to entertain and using the good china because "that's what it's for"!-She always made each of feel special and shared her home for our gatherings often. Eva was there to listen to our life stories and give advise to sooth our worries. Eva loved life and showed us how to love life as well. Her laugh and smile were contagious and she loved to be with the KENO group and enjoyed being a part of the shenanigans we stirred up over the years. I admired her and felt very blessed to be her friend. Her true grit to the end was only to be expected. Missing her will be sad but celebrating her life and all that she shared with us will be my way of honoring her memory and my love for our friendship.
