Frances Marie Southerland's Obituary
SOUTHERLAND, Frances Marie, age 87 of Nashville passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Miss Southerland graduated from East High School. She had a Bachelor of Music in piano from George Peabody College for Teachers; 3 Semesters at Julliard School of Music in New York City, studying piano with Katherine Bacon. Miss Southerland was a life long member of the Tulip Street Methodist Church, Church Organist, Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Administrative Board and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. She retired from teaching after 31 years at North high School and East Junior High School. She was also a member of the Eastland Music Club, Eastern Star Chapter # 1, Sigma Alpha Iota – national honorary music fraternity, Alpha Delta Kamma – national teachers sorority, American Guild of Organist, life member of the National Education Association and was connected with Southerland Inc. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Delmar and Ruth Bishop Southerland. She is survived by her cousins; H. Herman (Connie) Southerland, Marty (Michelle) Southerland, Stephanie (Brandon) McGee, Trey (Christie) Southerland, James (Loralee) Southerland and Ann Southerland. Her family will receive friends from 3 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 and on Friday, March 8 from 10 am until her Celebration of Life Service at 11 a.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by Rev. Matthew Baldwin and Rev. Hyeon Hong. Active pallbearers will include Marty Southerland, Trey Southerland, Matt Stauder, Brandon McGee, Wayne Richards and Roy Napper. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Southerland Inc. and members of the Tulip Street Methodist Church. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Tulip StreetMethodist Church
