James William Bryant, age 66, passed away on June 25th, 2024. He was a beloved son born to Fannie Bell Bryant, born in Nashville on September 18th, 1957.
James dedicated his life to serving the Nashville Metropolitan Board of Education as a custodial supervisor. His unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff left an indelible mark on the community. His love for children was evident in every aspect of his work. Whether he was ensuring clean hallways, fixing broken fixtures, or organizing school events, he approached each task with care and kindness. His warm smile and friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure among students and colleagues alike.
Beyond his professional life, James was a pillar of strength in his personal relationships. He married his childhood sweetheart, Debbie, on November 26th, 1973, and their enduring love story spanned five decades. Their union was a testament to loyalty and companionship. Together, they raised a loving family, instilling values of compassion, hard work, and resilience.
James found solace in nature—a devoted gardener who reveled in the simple pleasures of planting tomatoes and tending to his lawn. He enjoyed tinkering with whatever people brought to his garage, or with anything he could find to occupy his mind. He kept this routine going until the end, and his resilience will forever be remembered amongst his infinite wonderful qualities.
James William Bryant leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and resilience. His memory will forever echo through the halls of the schools he cared for and the hearts of those who knew him.
James is preceded in death by his mother Fannie Bryant, daughter Joyce Haddock, grandson Johnathan Haddock, brothers Marvin Yaney and Ray Jenkins, and sisters Wilma Batey and Mary Yaney. He is survived by his beloved wife Debbie Bryant; daughter Susan “Sam” Bryant (Melissa Ketelsen); grandsons Christopher Landrum (Jason), Austin Haddock, Julius Ketelsen, and Michael Ketelsen; great-grandson Dakota Haddock; brothers Ricky Bryant (Christina) and David Bryant (Jessie); son-in-law Chris Haddock; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
The family invites guests and relatives for a time of visitation on Sunday, June 30th, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 in the evening at Spring Hill Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place the following day, Monday, July 1st, 2024, at 2:00 in the afternoon with visitation 3 hours prior, and burial to follow at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery. All are welcome.
Final arrangements for Mr. Bryant are entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, “Where Nashville Comes to Remember.”
