Joan Moore Barkley's Obituary
Joan Moore Barkley, age 92, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 31, 2016 surrounded by her family at Creekside Health and Rehabilitation Center. From her birth in Nashville, Tennessee on January 21, 1924 to her death on Saturday she nurtured her family and friends with love, faith and encouragement. She was a 1942 graduate of Isaac Litton High School. She married Vernard Barkley on September 9, 1947 in Nashville with whom she enjoyed traveling and they were lifelong Vandy fans. She was a member of Dalewood Baptist Church. Joan especially poured herself into the lives of her children and grandchildren. Through her strength, generosity and commitment to family, she has influenced generations and left a lasting legacy.
She is preceded in death by Vernard, her husband of 36 years, and her parents Stephens and Exie Moore. She is survived by her three children Barbara Kesterson (George) of Hendersonville, Dr. Richard Barkley (Ann) of Goodlettsville, and Stephen Barkley (Bettie) of Old Hickory. She had eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Bentley, Jason Bentley, Brandon Barkley, Brett Barkley, Wayne Denne, Kyle Wiltshire, Adam Swor, Glenn Nabors and Ron Filson.
Funeral services and burial will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 1 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery with the Rev Ken Castleberry officiating. The family will greet friends at Spring Hill from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, January 3rd and on Wednesday, January 4th from 12 pm until the time of the service. The Barkley family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the Creekside Health and Rehabilitation Center in Madison for their loving care of Joan these last few years.
