Ms. Lois Johnson- Scoggins' Obituary
Recording artist Lois Johnson-Scoggins passed away quietly at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville on July 7 after a long illness.
Born in rural Union County, Tennessee, Lois began singing as a child on local radio broadcasts. Later, she worked with Jimmy Martin, Abbey Neal and others, including several USO tours. After moving to Nashville, she was a featured performer on the Grand Ole Opry and became a regular on the Ernest Tubb television show in the late 1960's along with Jack Greene, Willie Nelson and others. Other television appearances included The Mike Douglas Show, The Porter Waggoner Show, Nashville Now, New Country, That Nashville Music and more. Film credits include Backwater, Country Boy, Music City U.S.A. and To Chicago With Love.
While in Nashville, Lois worked with legendary producers Billy Sherril, George Richey and Jim Vienneau. She recorded two well-received albums with Hank Williams, Jr. but is best-known for two singles written by her then-husband, JoeDon Scoggins; 'Come on in and Let Me Love You' and 'Loving You Will Never Grow Old.'
Her phenomenal voice was versatile and powerful, her professional accomplishments impressive (See www.loisjohnsonmusic.com) but her loving, kind and generous spirit was the most remarkable thing about her. Heaven will be richer for her God-given talent as well as her faith, strength, humor and sweet nature. Lois was preceded in death by her father; Fred Johnson, her mother; Iretta Butcher-Johnson, and an infant brother; Richard.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 16th at 7 p.m. at the Ernest Tubb Texas Troubadour Theater, next to the Record Shop at 2416 Music Valley Drive in Nashville, TN. Family, friends and fans are all welcome.
Another Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 19th at the Rutherford Memorial United Methodist Church,7815 Corryton Rd., Corryton, TN (just outside of Knoxville) Visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m. with the service at 4 p.m. Interment will be immediately following at Ousley Cemetery in Union County.
