Mrs. Loretta Delores Jackson Smith's Obituary
Loretta Delores Jackson Smith, 79, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023. Born September 23, 1943, in Nashville, she was the daughter of Meriam Christine Brown Harding and the late Robert Lee Jackson.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother Robert Jackson, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dawson W. Smith, Sr.; daughter Rhonda Smith; son Dawson W. Smith, Jr.; grandchildren RaShawn Lewis, Loren (Aaron) Jennejahn, Jaleen Mooreland, Daijah Smith, Davonte Smith, and Davin Smith; great grandchildren Dominick Jennejahn and Alaryk Lewis; sisters Cheryl Akins and Karen Harding; brother Eric Harding; her dear friend Jacqueline Campbell; and several extended family members and friends.
Loretta graduated from Pearl High School. She went on to attend Tennessee A & I State and the University of Tennessee in Nashville. She was a member of Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church. Loretta enjoyed volunteering at school and camps with her grandchildren. She worked closely with the community neighborhood board and investment club. She was retired from Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was a unit coordinator for the Children’s Psychiatry Department.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 1, at 2:00 pm, with the family receiving visitors one hour prior to the service. Dr. Byron Moore and Rev. Theodore Bryson officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
