Mr. Louis Robert Owen Jr's Obituary
Louis Robert Owen, Jr. died on March 3, 2019 in Belmont Village, Nashville, Tennessee, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was the beloved husband of Robin Starr Johnson Owen, whom he married in 1970.
Louis was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on December 5, 1942, to Selma LaRue Owen and Louis Robert Owen, Sr . In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, William Sneed Owen of Knoxville, TN; a daughter, Robyn Owen Penix (Jeff), of Brentwood; three grandchildren, Victoria Leigh Owen(Edwin Ramirez), and Walker Thomas Owen Haskins, of Charlotte, North Carolina and Crystal Renee Haskins of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; two great grandchildren, Edwin Joseph Ramirez, Jr., and Lily Foxx Ramirez, also of Charlotte; and two nieces, Abigail Owen Maliza (Johanes) and Haley Kirksey Owen.
A proud graduate of the Isaac Litton High School and the University of Kentucky Louis served three years with the United States Navy Seabees. He was active in Vietnam and was decorated with an Expert Pistol Shot Medal, Expert Rifleman Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with Combat “V” and Silver Star, Vietnam Service Medal with Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations Insignia and Silver Star, Vietnamese Campaign Medal and Vietnamese Technical Service Medal. When his military service was completed Louis came home to Nashville, where, as a member of the American Institute of Architecture, he practiced his craft for the remainder of his professional career. He was a proud Tennessean who claimed Sneed Acres in Brentwood as his family’s ancestral home, dating back to 1798.
Louis was a deeply religious man who practiced his faith with his church family at Christ Presbyterian Church where he was honored to be a Charter Member. He served in a variety of roles: Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Mission and Evangelism Committees.
A funeral service celebrating Louis’ life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019, at 11 am at Christ Presbyterian Church. Visitation will precede at 10am. A private interment will be at the family cemetery at Sneed Acres.
Arrangements are under the direction of Spring Hill Funeral Home.
