Mr. Maurice E. Griggs' Obituary
Maurice E. Griggs, 98, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021. He was born on December 24, 1922 in Nashville, TN the son of Maurice Griggs Sr. and Margaret (Fields) Griggs both of whom preceded him in death.
Maurice married his high school sweetheart Sue (Smith) Griggs on August 28, 1944. Some of his greatest enjoyments in life were sitting in his recliner relaxing with the love of his life by his side next to a roaring fire. Maurice served very proudly in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a very patriotic man and loved flying the flag as it symbolized his love for this country. He was born and raised in Nashville and spent most of his time here. Maurice was the Director of Sales and Promotions at Taylor Impressions for 30 years. He also owned F & N Promotions from 1983 until 1999 which was later named Griggs Awards and Signs. Maurice loved his heavenly father, he was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene since 1934 where his parents were charter members. He served for over 60 years in various roles of leadership specifically a Church Board Trustee, Steward, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader and a guest speaker to many church organizations.
Maurice is survived by his wife Martha Sue (Smith) Griggs; children Rebecca Inman, William “Bill” Griggs (Beverly); grandchildren Carter Griggs (Jenny), Suzanne Johnson (Anthony); great grandchildren Nolan Griggs, Ada Griggs; step great grandchildren AJ Johnson. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Piro.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Mae Elizabeth Gamble and Frances Elizer. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter Julie Inman Cox.
