After living a full and generous life, Mrs. Milton Elizabeth Curtis Starnes died peacefully on March 13, 2015, at 97 years of age. She was born April 19, 1917 in Hendersonville. Milton was preceded in death by her husband, A.D. Read Obituary
Mrs. Starnes was such a great part of Hendersonville High school. I remember her teaching us to be grateful for what we had and not to be concerned about what we wish we had.

First, may I send my sincerest sympathy to Mrs. Starnes' family! We have lost a true friend and icon in this special lady! I learned so much from Mrs. Starnes in her Home Ec classes, her Cheerleading Sponsorship in my four years, even including the years following my graduation from Hendersonville High in 1961with her continued friendship! ...She was a true lady, always available for whatever anyone asked of her!
She attended most of our Class of 1961 Class Reunions, and got a lot of joy listening to many of the tales that her 'students' told of their highschool days, many of which she had never heard prior! Her sweet smile and her determination will always linger in my heart !

I had Mrs. Starnes as a Home-ec teacher in '70, '71. She guided me through making the one and only dress I've ever made and I was so proud!!!

There is a huge hole in my heart as today as I learned of the death of Mrs. Starnes. It is impossible for me to fully explain the profound effect she and Coach Starnes had on my life as a student at Hendersonville High School. Any and all success I have enjoyed in my life are a direct results of their encouragement. Mrs. Starnes' gentle loving ways and sincere and honest concern for me is a treasure I will take to my grave. There should be a monument erected in her memory at HHS.

She definitely was a great influence in my life. She was a great Teacher and she will be missed by all.
I probably learned more from Mrs Starnes, than any teacher I ever had and I'm not talking about cooking or sewing, it's about being a good person! God rest your sweet soul!
She had the most profound effect on my life not only as a school teacher but as a member of the church. What fine Christian lady she was .
