With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of Monica Aebersold, who passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 8th, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Born on October 8th, 1952, in Nashville, TN, Monica's vibrant spirit and compassionate heart touched everyone she met. A dedicated educator, she began her teaching career in 1975 at Metro Nashville Public Schools as an elementary school teacher, inspiring countless young minds and forming lifelong friendships with colleagues.
Monica's passion for learning was evident in her academic achievements. She earned her Associate of Science from Aquinas College in 1972, followed by a Bachelor's in Education from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in 1974. She continued her educational journey with a Master's degree in Education from MTSU, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in teaching.
Family was the cornerstone of Monica's life. She shared a beautiful marriage with her loving husband, Mark Aebersold, and cherished her role as a devoted mother to her daughter, Alyse West, and mother-in-law to Aaron West. She was a beloved sister to Toby Werrbach and sister-in-law to Peggie Werrbach. Though preceded in death by her sister, Susan Mitchell and her parents, Otto Werrbach, Jr. and Marie Therese Werrbach, Monica's family bonds remained strong and filled with love.
Monica's life was a tapestry of joyful experiences. She had an adventurous spirit, delighting in travel and outdoor activities. She loved exploring new places, especially her trips to Europe, and treasured vacationing with family and friends. Her days were filled with attending Sunday Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was an active member, participating in the Legion of Mary and Ladies of Charity. Monica was passionate about giving back to her community, serving as a troop leader and day camp leader for the Girl Scouts of America.
Her compassionate nature shone through her work with benevolent organizations within the Catholic Church. Resilient, supportive, responsible, generous, and honest, Monica's key personality traits endeared her to all who knew her. She loved spending time with her family and friends, creating joyous memories that will be cherished forever.
As we honor Monica's remarkable life, we remember her not with sadness but with joy for the time we shared with her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and faith continues to inspire us all.
A Funeral Mass will be held on January 16th, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the St. Joseph food bank in Monica's memory, continuing her tradition of generosity and compassion.
