Announcement of death Dr. Newton Griffin, 88, passed away at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh, NC. on May 23, 2020.
Born on June 7, 1932 in Nashville, TN, to George Allen Griffin and Della Bramblett Griffin, he resided in Raleigh for the past 40 years. Earning his medical degree from Vanderbilt University, he practiced medicine as a board certified OB/GYN. He briefly served as a Flight Surgeon and General Medical Officer as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. Newton enjoyed traveling, building model airplanes, and having attained his pilot license, flying his own airplane. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Raleigh.
Married in March 1960, he is survived by his wife, Betty Stroud Griffin of Raleigh, NC, sister-in-law Patsy Stroud Walker of Rockville, MD, brother-in-law Richard Davis Stroud of Athens, TN and 8 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, George Allen Griffin, and his niece Nancy Griffin.
A graveside service will be held at Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville, TN on June 6, 2020 at 11:30 with viewing beginning at 10:30. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association
