Mr. Richard Daniel Wonders' Obituary
Richard Daniel Wonders was born July 30, 1928 in East Liverpool, Ohio to Marie Higgins Wonders and Charles Wonders. Raised in East Liverpool, he graduated from East Liverpool HS, and remained actively involved with the Alumni Association until his passing.
Dick joined the Army in 1948, and spent time in Germany during the Berlin Airlift serving as a radar operator. Upon returning from active duty, Dick was stationed in Watertown NY, and married the love of his life, Lila Lee Swisher. Together, they raised 5 children - Lynette Wonders Rutledge Outen (married to Thom Outen), Vickie Wonders Foltz (married to David Foltz), Kim Wonders, Denise Rae Wonders Beatty (married to Greg Beatty), and Rich Wonders. Dick, Lee, and their family lived in Ohio, California, New Mexico, Indiana, Washington, DC, and Nashville, TN thru the years. Their family grew to include 10 grandchildren - Ben Rutledge, Dr. Brandon Foltz, DDS, Tyler Foltz Anderson, Cameron Foltz Comer, Kyle Beatty, Ashley Beatty West, Zachary Beatty, Jordan Wonders, Madison Wonders, and Jansen Wonders. Together, Dick and Lee had a wonderful and complete life that was centered around their large family, which has now expanded to include 8 great grandchildren. Daughter Vickie pre-deceased him in 2008, and his precious wife, Lee, went to be home with the Lord in 2012.
Dick spent his life in both business and serving the Lord in ministry. He owned Wonders Insurance Agency, and also spent years in music ministry at Churches of the Nazarene in Concord CA, Nashville TN, Kokomo IN, Washington DC and Clovis NM. Dick, Lee, and daughter Denise spent several years traveling together in support of their family music ministry.
His overriding message in the last months of his life was his goal was to see that all his family know the Lord. Through the Christ-centered leadership of both Dick and Lee, his goal is a reality!
A celebration of his life will be held Mon, June 17, 2019 at Grace Church of the Nazarene, Pennington Bend Rd, Nashville, TN. Visitation with the family from 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM, celebration service immediately following. There will be no gravesite services.
