Mr. Robert C. Kurzynske's Obituary
Robert C. Kurzynske, 80, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 18, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born January 7, 1939, in Nashville, Tennessee. Bob was the oldest of five brothers: Rick, Kevin, Mark, and Todd. Their parents, Frank (October 2011) and Edna Trent Kurzynske (December 2009), preceded them in death.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother Kevin, who passed 30 years ago in 1989.
Bob attended high school at Highland Academy in Portland, TN and graduated with a BA in biology from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI.
Bob married the love and joy of his life, Mary Peek, while he was in college. They started a family with two daughters, Terryn and Michelle, in Michigan and then returned to Tennessee.
He began his professional career as a transportation planner and served 28 years for the Metro Planning Commission and then 10 years with TDOT.
Bob recently celebrated his 80th birthday with friends, neighbors and family from 10 states at the Ridgetop Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary; his daughters Terryn (Kevin) Shaw and Michelle (Donald) Chase; grandchildren Tyson (Esther) Shaw, Tristan (Liz) Shaw, Marilee (Adam) Rego, Greg (Beth) Chase and Laura Chase; great grandchildren Abigail Shaw, Elliot Shaw, Jason Shaw and Jackson Rego; brothers Rick (Janet) Kurzynske, Mark (Teresa) Kurzynske, and Todd (Melody) Kurzynske; sister-in-law Julie (Doug) Mittleider and her family; and many nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great niece who knew him as ‘Uncle Bob’.
Bob had faced death due to a serious illness in 2001 that left him with a broken body but an even stronger will and faith in Christ Jesus. As he prepared to leave this world he held fast to the hope of a soon and promised resurrection and a new life in Christ where he will enjoy an even stronger body, full health and eternal life. He was a devout Christian who attended the Ridgetop Seventh-day Adventist Church for almost 50 years where he was a member, elder and served in many other church positions. He also volunteered at Skyline Medical Center, WPLN Radio, and at the Great Smoky Mountains Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage.
Visitation will be Monday, January 21, from 6 PM until 8 PM at Spring Hill Funeral Home 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, Tennessee. A celebration of life funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 22, at 1 PM with Pastor William Little officiating. Family will receive visitors an hour prior to funeral services. Burial will follow in the historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
