Robert Jordan McKee's Obituary
Robert Jordan McKee, age 89, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026.
Robert was born on November 4, 1936, to the late Grover and Mary Evelyn (Binkley) McKee and was also lovingly raised by his stepmother, Thelma McKee. From an early age, Robert demonstrated a keen mind, strong character, and deep sense of pride in his family and country.
A lifelong Tennessean, Robert graduated from East High School in 1954, where he delivered the Valedictorian Address—memorably doing so in the rain. He went on to attend the University of Tennessee, graduating in 1958, beginning a lifelong devotion to education, Tennessee football, and spirited conversation about sports and politics.
Robert is survived by his children and family members, Randal McKee, Brenda McBroom, Susie Robinson Hurst, and James M. McKee, along with many beloved nieces and nephews who knew him as “Uncle Bobby.” He was immensely proud of each of them and never failed to celebrate their birthdays, accomplishments, and milestones. Even as a child, one could count on Uncle Bobby’s visits to be full of attention, encouragement, and a carefully chosen gift—often a fun toy and always given with love.
Robert cherished time with his family. He especially loved hosting Fourth of July celebrations, sharing his deep love for country and tradition. He enjoyed traveling, particularly by train, and delighted in treating his family to Christmas celebrations aboard the General Jackson many times over the years. He also loved gathering around a poker table, where he earned a reputation as the luckiest player—favoring games with plenty of wildcards.
A passionate Tennessee Volunteers fan, Robert’s dislike of Alabama football was legendary. Even when his nieces and nephews were young, they remember him listening to games on the radio, jumping on the bed with joy whenever Tennessee scored. Sports, politics, and current events were constant interests, and he was known for his thoughtful, deeply conservative views—always shared with respect. True to his character, Robert never spoke ill of others and approached life with kindness and integrity.
Robert believed strongly in taking care of himself. He remained remarkably healthy throughout his life and faithfully attended the gym three days a week. At age 88, he was featured on the gym’s website as an example of how exercise contributes to healthy aging—a testament to his discipline and vitality.
Above all, Robert Jordan McKee will be remembered as a loving family man, a proud Tennessean, a loyal Volunteer, and a kind, thoughtful soul who never forgot the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the traditions he cherished, the stories he told, and the countless lives he touched simply by showing up, paying attention, and caring deeply.
He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
