Jean Pate Martin
I knew Virginia since 1935. I graduated from Litton HS 1942. She was a bridesmaid at my wedding. I still have the two vases she gave us as a wedding gift. Her husband O.J. was friends with my older brother Earl Graves Pate.
One summer we had tennis lessons together and could wear shorts! That was an exception then in Madison, TN. We grew up together and had many good times. When we went swimming she did not have to curl her hair! It was naturally curly. I wished I had curly hair too.
We cut out pictures from Sears catalog when younger to make paper dolls. Her dad sold eggs and her mother was always patient having dinner on the table. Virginia would patiently attend her daily on her later years. I recall sitting at their table on Dec. 7,1941 and her dad arrived. He announced that “We will win this war in six months!” Confident.
We reconnected by phone this past year and I was sorry to just now learn that she passed two days before her birthday. My condolences to your family. May your many fond memories bring you blessings.
