Mrs. Winifred Crook's Obituary
CROOK, Winifred (Winn) – Passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 81 on April 18, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles Crook. They had been sweethearts since the age of 13.
Winn was a retired educator, having earned undergraduate degrees from the University of Kansas and Wichita State University, and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at Vanderbilt’s Peabody College. Winn was a treasured teacher in the Metro Nashville School System (Chadwell Elementary School), and was awarded numerous accolades including Tennessee State Teacher of the Year and Metro Nashville Outstanding Teacher of the Year.
Winn was a longstanding member and officer of professional organizations Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Stones River Woman’s Club. Winn was an animal lover and gifted artist who loved creating beautiful things – paintings, calligraphy, handmade jewelry, flower and vegetable gardens, table settings and wonderful family meals.
Winn in survived by her children Kimberley Carter (Dr. Edward Carter), Phoenix; Lorianne Crook-Owens (Jim Owens), Brentwood; Bret Crook, Madison; grandchildren Jana Crook, Las Vegas; Dr. Ted Carter (Shivaun Carter), Phoenix, Dan Carter (Carmen Carter), Phoenix; Ashley Carter, Phoenix; and great grandson Jackson Carter, Phoenix.
A Memorial gathering will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home at 5110 Gallatin Road off Briley Parkway (615-865-1101) on April 29, 2015 from 11am – 2pm. Private services will follow for immediate family.
